Students wishing to audit a course(s) must first register via Cardinal Students.  Instructions for course registration can be found here.

Once registered, the student must complete and submit the Registration Status Change form to their academic dean's office to request that their grading basis be changed to audit. If the academic dean signs off on the change to audit, the form will be forwarded by the deans' office to the Enrollment Services office for processing. Upon receipt of the form and memo, the student's grading basis will be changed to audit.

Students should submit the Registration Status Change form as soon as possible after registering for their course(s) in Cardinal Students but no later than the last day to change to audit as listed in the academic calendar.

Credit will not be granted for auditing a course. Audited classes cannot be counted for enrollment certification, for fulfillment of degree requirements, for financial aid purposes, or for loan deferment purposes, regardless of billing or registration status.  Audited courses will bill at the normal tuition rate for the course except when the post-doctoral auditing privilege has been approved for the student (see below section).

Auditors are required to attend a minimum of one-half (1/2) of the class sessions. If this requirement is not met, the Office of Enrollment Services may, solely upon notice of the instructor of insufficient attendance, delete the course from the student's record. Charges for the course will not be refunded, even if the auditor fails to attend the course.

Post-Doctoral Auditing Privilege

Per the Graduate Registration Policy, the privilege of enrollment as an auditor without charge for tuition may be extended under certain circumstances, with the approval of the school dean, to persons who hold doctorates earned through graduate study (not including doctorates which are first professional degrees). However, an Audit Fee is payable at the beginning of each semester or summer session.

Instructions for Post-Doctoral Auditors

Individuals wishing to audit a course under the post-doctoral auditing privilege must first apply to the university as a non-degree student. The non-degree application can be found here.

Upon acceptance as a non-degree student and payment of the registration deposit, the student will register for the desired course(s) in Cardinal Students. Instructions for course registration can be found here.

After registering for the desired course(s), the student will need to submit the Registration Status Change form to their academic dean's office to request that their grading basis be changed to audit.  The academic dean's office will forward the form to the Office of Enrollment services for processing, along with a memo confirming that the student qualifies for the post-doctoral auditing privilege.  Upon receipt of the form and memo, the student's grading basis will be changed to audit and the tuition charges for the course(s) will be waived and replaced with the post-doctoral audit fee. The student will remain responsible for any additional fees on their account (new student fee, activity fee, course fees, etc.).

Students should submit the Registration Status Change form as soon as possible after registering for their course(s) but no later than the last day to change to audit as listed in the academic calendar.

Because the academic dean's office must confirm eligibility for the post-doctoral auditing privilege in order for the tuition to be waived, students interested in the post-doctoral auditing privilege are strongly encouraged to contact the academic dean's office of the school in which they wish to take courses prior to completing the application process.
