Some students may need their diploma and/or transcript to be authenticated for use in a foreign country. Follow the instructions below to have a diploma or transcript authenticated.
To have your document(s) authenticated in person:
Contact the Office of Enrollment Services to schedule an appointment with one of our Notary Publics. You will need to bring the documents to be authenticated and photo identification to your appointment. Once your item(s) has been notarized you will need to take it to the DC Office of Notary Commissions and Authentications along with the below items.
A cover letter with your name, address, phone number and the country where the authentication will be used.
A fee of $15 per document, payable by money order, personal check, certified check, or cashier’s check made out to DC Treasurer.
The DC Office of Notary Commissions and Authentications will authenticate your document.
To have your document(s) authenticated by mail:
Mail the document(s) to be to be authenticated to the Office of Enrollment Services along with the below items:
- A cover letter addressed to the DC Office of Notary Commissions and Authentications with your name, address, phone number and the country where the authentication will be used.
- A fee of $15 per document, payable by money order, personal check, certified check, or cashier’s check made out to DC Treasurer.
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope (the envelope is for the return of your document(s) to you so make sure it is sufficiently sized and that appropriate postage has been affixed.
A Notary Public in the Office of Enrollment Services will notarize your document(s) and will forward it, along with the items listed above, to the DC Office of Notary Commissions and Authentications. The DC Office of Notary Commissions and Authentications will then authenticate your document(s) and return it to you in the self-addressed, stamped envelope you have provided.
